NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a ground baiting program from 20th May 2024 to 7th June 2024. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of feral animals.
The program will take place in Crowdy Bay National Park.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially koalas and other threatened species.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Areas closed for Aerial Spray program for Bitou Bush
The National Parks and Wildlife Service will be undertaking aerial spraying operations for Bitou Bush control in Hat Head, Goolawah and Limeburners Creek National Parks from Tuesday 28 May until Friday 7 June.
No campgrounds will be closed during the operation, but some walking tracks, roads, beaches, headlands and carparks will be temporarily closed for short periods for public safety.
Bitou Bush will be sprayed with herbicide (Metsulfuron methyl) and the operation is expected to take 2 days to complete.
Spraying operations will be undertaken only when conditions are suitable, so are unlikely to occur throughout the entire period. Areas will be closed for short periods of up to 7 hours while spraying is undertaken. NPWS staff will be in attendance when specific areas are closed to ensure public safety.
The closed areas are:
- Goolawah Beach between Racecourse campground and Back Crescent Beach access
- Big Hill walking track
- South Big Hill beach access
- Plomer Road between Big Hill and Point Plomer
- Barries Bay
- Queens Head walking track and beach access
- North Shore Beach between Queens Head and Broken Bit
- Plomer Road between Broken Bit and Queens Head

Access to the Banda Banda Aboretum is open however extreme caution should be exercised. The trail becomes very slippery in damp or even misty weather and there is an increased risk of fallen trees blocking the trail. There are limited places to turn around safely if the trail is blocked. Visitors are encouraged to walk in to the Arboretum rather than drive.
