Closed areas: Park closed due to roadworks

To allow for flood recovery roadworks to be conducted the primary access road to most visitor facilities in Washpool NP, Coachwood Drive, will be closed from 10am Monday 27 May until 2pm Thursday 6 June 2024. Due to this closure Bellbird and Coombadjha campgrounds, the Coachwood picnic area, Granite picnic area and all walks that depart from these locations are also closed.

This road closure will not impact the World Heritage Walk, but for visitors intending to undertake the Walk during this time please contact the NPWS Northern Tablelands Area office on 02 6739 0700 to discuss camping options.

This closure does not extend to Four Bull Hut or the horse riding trails in the north-west area of Washpool NP.

Do not enter closed areas and follow any direction from signage, staff and contractors. Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, please call the NPWS Northern Tablelands Area office on 02 6739 0700.

Roadworks will be taking place on Coachwood Drive, the primary access road into Washpool NP from the Gwydir Highway, from 2pm Thursday 6 June until 5pm Friday 14 June 2024.

Please exercise caution if accessing Coachwood Drive, and follow any instructions from signage, staff or contractors.

Other planned events: Road maintenance works on T-Ridge Road in Nymboida National Park.

Road and roadside vegetation maintenance works will be occurring on T-Ridge Road and around the Nymboida River Campground from Monday 20 May until Tuesday 28 May 2024, pending weather.

Please comply with advisory signage. Vehicles will be able to access using T-Ridge road to the Nymboida River Campground and this campground remains open during these works. For more information, contact the NPWS Grafton Area office.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will commence a 1080 ground baiting program on the 1st April to 30th June 2024 on the following reserves:

  • Boonoo Boonoo National Park
  • Butterleaf State Conservation Area
  • Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve

The operations will use meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. Signs will be placed at the entry to all the baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NPWS managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Butterleaf Road, the access road into Butterleaf NP through the adjoining State Forest, is in very poor condition, and access is restricted to 4WD only. Please exercise caution and drive to conditions.

  • Park entry fees:

    $8 per vehicle per day applies only at attractions in the Glen Innes area. The park uses a self-registration fee collection system. Please bring the correct change and display your receipt.
